Is general liability enough for your lawn care business?
Questions to help lawn care owners discuss general liability, equipment, vehicles and crew-related risks with a licensed agent.
Lawn Care Policy · Updated
Educational information, not a coverage determination. Examples are hypothetical. Policy wording, exclusions and underwriting decide whether coverage applies.
Start with the risk, not the bundle
General liability commonly addresses certain third-party injury and property-damage claims. It is not a catch-all for every loss a lawn care business might experience. Coverage remains subject to the actual policy, exclusions and circumstances.
Before choosing one policy or several, describe your operation. A solo mowing business and a crew that also treats lawns, tows equipment and removes snow need different questions answered. A generic list cannot decide the right combination for either.
Separate the questions you need answered
Use this discussion list with an agent. These are review prompts, not a statement that a particular policy will respond.
- Customer injury or property damage: what policy terms apply to the work I perform?
- My mowers and tools: what happens if they are stolen, damaged or away from their storage location?
- Trucks and trailers: which vehicle uses, drivers and ownership arrangements should I disclose?
- My crew: what workers’ compensation rules and policy conditions apply where we operate?
- Chemicals, tree work or snow removal: are there exclusions, restrictions or additional coverage questions?
Compare the proposed documents
Ask for the proposed coverage, limits, deductibles and relevant exclusions in a form you can review. If a client has insurance requirements, share the actual wording with the agent. Do not assume a coverage name alone satisfies the contract.
Some business-owner packages combine multiple coverages, while other exposures may need separate policies. Availability varies. A lower premium is not a like-for-like comparison if the covered operations or terms differ.
- Does each proposal describe the same services and locations?
- Are the limits and deductibles comparable?
- Which questions remain unanswered in writing?
- What is required before coverage can take effect?
Prepare once, then check your options
Use our quote checklist to gather your operating details before starting. Tell us what you need rather than selecting extra policies just because they appear on a list. A licensed agent can help review the remaining questions. Completing a form or viewing a price does not by itself put coverage in force.
